The competition for young artists for the production of a site-specific work for Castel Sant'Elmo, promoted by Polo Museale della Campania and DGAAP.

The national competitionUn’Opera per il Castello” is now in its seventh edition. The prize is dedicated to young artists who propose works of art for the Castel Sant’Elmo Museum in Naples.
Organised by the Polo museale della Campania and the Castel Sant’Elmo, the prize is promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries of the MiBAC as part of the PAC.
Artists are invited to present site-specific artworks that reinterpret the spaces of the castle and reflect on the concepts of the environment and sustainability. The intention is to establish a direct dialogue with the architecture of the castle and its visiting public to raise awareness among individuals and society about the era in which we live.

The winning project will be acquired by the Polo museale della Campania and become part of the permanent collection of the Castel Sant’Elmo.

The theme of this year’s edition is “EVERYDAY NATURE. Environment and Sociality”. The Castel Sant'Elmo maintains a strong relationship with the natural and urban landscape and remains a privileged space for reflecting on these issues.
The winner, selected by a jury of experts, will be assigned a prize of 10 thousand Euro for the realisation of the artwork, which will be presented during a final exhibition. The catalogue of the 7th edition will document the winning project, together with the projects and biographies of the finalists.

Participation is open and free of charge.
The prize is open to artists with Italian citizenship or foreigners operating in a stable manner in Italy, between the ages of 21 and 36. Artists who have studied the visual arts either in Italy or abroad may participate individually or in groups. Preference may be afforded to those who have shown previously in a recognised gallery, cultural centre, foundation, public or private museum.
Projects must be original and created specifically for the call.
The jury, nominated after the submission deadline, will be comprised of the Director of the Castel Sant'Elmo, art historians, professors from universities and fine arts academies, gallery owners, curators, experts and leading figures interacting with the younger generation of artists, as well as a representative of the DGAAP.
Participants must register by 12 noon (CET) on the 15 June 2018.
