Yuri Ancarani, Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Leone Contini, Lara Favaretto, Flavio Favelli, Anna Franceschini and Luca Trevisani are the winners of the second edition of Italian Council, with projects proposed by international institutions such as Kunsthalle Basel, the Italian Cultural Institute of Bruxelles and the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart..
The projects have been selected by a selection commission presided over by Federica Galloni and managed by Carolina Italiano, and it was composed by Carlos Basualdo, Stefano Baia Curioni, Maria Grazia Messina and Alberto Salvadori.
Rome, November 17, 2017 - Seven artists are the winners of Italian Council, the international competition aimed to promote Italian Contemporary Art abroad. The project is funded by DGAAP, MiBAC's Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries, led by Federica Galloni, with the support of Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The proposals arrived from all over the world were 42: Yuri Ancarani, Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Leone Contini, Lara Favaretto, Flavio Favelli, Anna Franceschini and Luca Trevisani got the prize.
"The call of Italian Council is celebrating its first year. I am very pleased with the quality of the proposals and the collaborations, which show the dynamism of the Italian contemporary art and its undeniable international backdrop” - said Federica Galloni, Director of DGAAP – who added “I am sure that the creative potential of all the artists who participated in the call will be appreciated by the international institutions that supported the project, becoming partners.
Many international foreign partners and participants have joined Italian Council, such as the Kunsthalle Basel, the Italian Cultural Institute of Bruxelles and the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, in addition to several Italian institutions like the Castle of Rivoli, the foundation Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, and the foundation Donnaregina per le Arti Contemporanee and Viafarini.
The projects have been selected by a selection commission composed by five senior members: Federica Galloni, DGAAP General Manager and President of the Commission; Carlos Basualdo, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art of the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Stefano Baia Curioni, Associate Professor of Economic History at Bocconi University in Milan; Maria Grazia Messina, Art Historian and Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Florence; Alberto Salvadori, Director of OAC Fondazione Cr Firenze, under the management of Carolina Italiano.
Italian Council is part of a more structural project to complete institutional support to national creativity: for this reason, the resources made available by the MIBACT, through the Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries, are more than EU 900,000.00 in 6 months.
For the first call, launched between spring and summer 2017, Alterazioni Video, Danilo Correale, Nicolò Degiorgis, Eva Frapiccini, Alice Gosti, Margherita Moscardini and Patrick Tuttofuoco got the prize.
The Italian Council is just the last of a series of actions in support of Italian contemporary creativity promoted by DGAAP, such as the New York Prize, the Berlin Prize, the Shanghai Prize, and the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale.
