Museum merchandising unites two fields of Italian excellence: museums and design.
The DAB-Design competition, now in its 6th edition, is open to Italian designers under the age of 35. It looks for projects inspired by Italian cultural and artistic heritage, to be sold in museum bookshops and art shops.
Promoted by GAi in collaboration with the City of Modena, and supported by the DGAAP as part of the DE.MO. project, the competition offers opportunities for employment and the creation of new professional figures; it promotes projects through exhibitions and shows and offers incentives for their successive production and sale in museum art and book shops, in some cases collaborating with businesses from this sector.
Past editions selected a total of 430 prototypes, by 140 designers, for exhibitions at the Galleria Civica in Modena, Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Macef in Milan, Castel Sant’Elmo in Naples and the MAXXI in Rome.
Some of these items were produced by specialised companies or self-produced by the designers themselves and presented at the Triennale di Milano, Museum Expressions in Paris and Open Design Italia in Venice and Trento. Items have also been sold in various bookshops, including those at the Venice Biennale, the MART in Trento and the Madre in Naples.
To participate all that is necessary is the presentation of projects or photographs of prototypes, or objects that have already been realised but are not yet for sale.
The 2015 Brief ended on the 23 November 2015.
