Il Pensiero che non diventa Azione avvelena l'Anima (Words without Action Poison the Soul) is an archive of documents testifying to the daily commitment of those who dedicated their lives to fighting the Mafia, photographed by the artist. The material consists of notes, agendas, photographs, fragments of investigations from the pre-digital era found in public and private archives, including historic archives and study centres dedicated to the Mafia. Other sources include victims’ families, schools and libraries in Palermo and Italy. The evidence dates from the 1970s to the 1990s. These simple, often intimate objects have a strong historic, political and moral weight.
Eva Frapiccini’s project is entirely dedicated to public participation and involvement, as much during the phase of research (the involvement of local organisations was essential) as during its use; the final result is a photographic installation conceived as a mobile archive that can be consulted by the public. It is presented in a wrought iron structure containing photographs of this otherwise inaccessible material.
